This superb old example consists of alternating bands of butter yellow, pink, light blkue and white, al absolutely typilcal of early Zulu glass beadwork , particularly the greasy ,butter yellow beads which were the fashion then. It is built on 10 narrow, hand knotted strips of fibre edged with spaced red beads, so that each band of colour is separated from the next by a row of underlying red beads. The armband has large red translucent pony beads instead of buttons and closes with loops on the other side. Note how the large beads at the one side are spaced farther from the band to accommodate the swell of the muscle, a common feature of Zulu arm and leg bands. Extremely well made and in fine condition. Size 22 x 10 cm /8 x 4 inches.
