Msinga is the inland region of KwaZulu in the rolling Valley of a Thousand Hills. Msigna beadwork is always designed in alternating bands of colours arranged in formal geometric patterns. Msinga neckbands are usually made as coils,. or as narrow bands, first beaded and then joined together. These are unusual since the backing strips have been joined and then beaded as one wider band. Both bands are worn together, one above the other. Each band length 39 cm / 15 ½ inches, width 2 cm / ¾ inch.
