Outstanding South East African axe with a wire-bound handle (WSR)

An elegant early 20th century example with a slender blade and two woven brass wire binding on the handle. .Axes of this stye are usually associated with Mozambique, Tanganyika or the Rhodesias.Blade 12 cm / 4 inches, handle 45 cm/ 17 1/2inches.

Please note, the axes I am currently offering are from an old Melbourne collection and generally around 70 100 years old. They are usually hand-forged in the bush from low grade iron. The blade has been well oiled, but there is likely to be be a minor amount of low level corrosion and pitting on the surface
