An unusual form of stone axe from the headwaters of the Strickland River in the Chentraq=l Rages of the Highlands. The Strickland is the largest tributiory of rthe Fly River, which flows to the coast.
Note the long balance arm and flat woven rattan ribbon binding binding wihich is only foind in this region. This axe was collected in a very isolated area by an Australian expatriate miner working in West Papua. Dimensions: handle, 48 cm / 19 inches. Blade,binding and balace arm 65 cm/ 25.5 inches.
