This is a nice old working tool made for hunting or fighting. It is quite large and heavy and fairly rough, having been shaped with an axe and finished with a heavy rasp which was very common, since the rasps were used for metal working and readily available. (You can see the rasp marks, especially on the flat back). Contrary to popular belief, very few boomerangs were actually made to return to the thrower – only the small, vee-shaped versions usually used for bid hunting would return. The traditional boomerang was made to be used like a throwing club, arcing through the air to hit its victim with the sharp edges of the blade. Length around the curve 70 cm /
