Old Zulu knobkerrie with very fine wire bindings, circa 1900. (WAA)

The knobkerrie is the Zulu hand-to-hand fighting club with the distinctive knop or round head at one end. It is cut from the tree in one piece with the head excised from the trunk at the end of a growing branch very finely carve and shaped.

This is a classic early 20th century example carved in heavy hardwood and decorated with four intricately woven bands of brass wire.It has anb excelle nt p[atina with soem maeks of wear and use commensurate with its age. Length 81 cm /32 inches Diameter of head 8 cm/3 inches
