Old Middle Sepik bone boring tool in the form of a cassowary (SWB)

This small bone hand awl in the form of a bird dates to the 1950s or 1960s. It is a perfect example of aesthetics combined with practicality. It is not only nice to look at, but also fits comfortably into the palm of the hand, has a very hard, sharp, practical point and would make short work of boring a hole in soft wood, skin, basketry etc. Length 15 cm /6 inches
