This small old piece has two figures standing back to back on a triangualr base, with a circuakr disk on their heads. This carving belongs to a very collectable class of carvings which includes the famous Massim pigs and these small pedestals which were carved for sale, a practice dating back more than a hundred years ,when the buyers were mainly Yankee whalers and other traders who put in to the Trobriands to take on food and water.

Judging by the age and carvign style of the piece it was carved in the 1940s or earlier and there is still some surviving lime infill.
