Rare Timorese miniature personal amulet mask. (DSF)

This old and used maskette carved in buffalo horn comes from West Timor (Indonesia) where it was used as a protective charm which was carried close to the person at all times. Among Timorese tribesmen this usually meant that it was tucked into the Ikat Pinggang or belt sash that was handwoven on a simple backstrap loom and used to secure the cotton blankets that the men wear as a main garment securely around the waist. Size:5 x 3,5 cm / 2 x 1 1/2 inches.
