Zulu Woman's Foreskirt, Msinga area, Kwazulu (ZAF)

This bead panel has been recently sewn onto a black pinafore-shaped piece of fabric, but the original beadwork panel is at least 40-50 years old, as can be seen from the reverse side. Typical Msinga beadwork from the hilly, inland area of Kwazulu around Estcourt and Weenen and beaded in large 'pony' beads in the style known as 'Isithembu' (five colours). The Zulu name for this apron is 'isipinifa', from the English word pinafore. Size of beaded panel 76x14 cm/30x5 inches.
