Shangane necklace and headband. (SAT)

The Shangane or Tsonga people are the remnant of a Nguni-language tribe displaced by the southern migrations and tribal wars of the 18th and 19th centuries – most Shangane –affiliated trbies live across the border in Mozambique. These examples are traditional and date to the 1980s (tribal dres is still common today in rural areas)_. The headband is a single band of multi-coloured vertical stripes in a white field, while the necklace is a fairly stiff double tube. Circumferences: Necklace 72 cm / 28 inches and headband 56 cm / 22 inches.
