This Asmat area A shield is of outstanding quality and is both old and used. The decorative human head finial and the face carved at the top of the shield, both depicting ancestors, are superb.The carving, depicting three large flying foxes (head hunting symbols) is bold, deep and powerful.Size: 77x19 inches/196x49 cm/. This important circa 1960 piece has an outstanding provenance and a known history. The ipits (carver) was Gietu and the owner Joni of Awok Village Siretsj river.
