A classic old circa 1950 Karewe agiba in the round head style. This example is very similar to a 19th century examples in the British Museum and the Tomkins Collection. Size 71 x 31 cm. The use of skull racks persisted for many years after head hunting was suppressed by the authorities, because although human skulls were no longer taken, boar skulls and the trophy skulls of hunted animals and even birds were dedicated to the spirits and displayed on them. Size 72 x 30 cm. Provenance: From a collection made by an ex-pat stationed in the Gulf in the 1960s and 1970s.
