An elegant and quite plain white fringed necklace, the only decoration being the four black diamonds at the centre. The typical significance of this pattern is that her bride price is four head of cattle and that she is still a virgin, as the centres of the diamond shapes are solid white.(The tribal Xhosa were broad minded about pre-marital sex and practiced a non-penetrative technique called “ukumetsha”, but a girl was expected to remain a virgin technically until marriage. Length 42 cm / 16 ˝ inches.
